AWOS collect and assimilate data from sensors, process and distribute sensor data in real time.

As a standalone or integrated added module to AWOS, Thunderball provide early warning of approaching thunderstorms for risk reduction in airport operations, improving safety and operational efficiency. The system uses real-time lightning data and local atmospheric data to provide early warning of thunderstorms and lightning.

The system also monitors and displays the direction and speed of a thunderstorm. A map image with the airport in the centre can be displayed in a separate window in the AWOS client system or in a separate client. Lightning strikes are presented in real time on the map together with the atmospheric electrical field strength at the airport.
